Disney Legend Jodi Benson (the singing and speaking voice of ‘Ariel’ in the animated film ‘The Little Mermaid’) surprises the audience at “Disney Princess – The Concert” in Orlando, Florida on November 8th, 2022!
Benson performs “Part of Your World” with music director Benjamin Rauhala before the full cast joins her for a special Quintet arrangement of “Part of Your World (Reprise)” by Rauhala. Benson is joined by Christy Altomare (Broadway’s ‘Anastasia’), Isabelle McCalla (‘Princess Jasmine’ in “Aladdin” on Broadway and on tour), Anneliese van der Pol (‘Chelsea’ in “That’s So Raven,” ‘Belle’ in “Beauty and the Beast” on Broadway) Syndee Winters (‘Nala’ in “The Lion King” on Broadway and on tour).

This was amazing, and I really do love that Mr Rauhala and the other ladies can do this with full support from Disney now <3
But there's a large part of me that really misses the Broadway Princess Parties at 54 below. For one, it didn't just have Disney (so we could get songs from Broadway Cinderella, Swan Princess, Thumbelina etc), and for another, there's something very special about having just a single piano, or a small ensemble, accompanying the amazing voices in a small hall. Most of these shows now are performing arrangements that are mostly accurate to their original movie score, which ARE beautiful and magnificent with full orchestras, and I love them! Yet I miss when we had Catherine Charlebois throw in a half-step key change in I Won't Say I'm In Love just because she can, I miss the jazz arrangement of In My Own Little Corner/Agony, I miss the Comprehensive Liz Callaway Medley, I miss Kevin Massey and his little skit with Derek Klena about the German Tarzan, and I definitely miss Derek Klena's A Prince In Their World. I miss the creative, wonderfully arranged piano accompaniments that Benjy had to arrange in order to bring across all the different genres and styles for each song because he was the only instrument they had at times.
I don't think we'll ever get those times again because Disney is A Brand and the Princess Concerts are now A Brand too, but Mr Rauhala, if you see this, those days were absolutely dear to my heart, and I thank you so, so much for giving them to us for a few years ;w;
